Sarasota County is launching an online auction website that will make it possible for people to bid on surplus county office equipment and other items.
The website, located at www.publicsurplus.com, will replace the public auctions used to dispose of county surplus materials. Visitors who register on the website can see pictures of the equipment, along with the current prices for items, the number of bids and the amount of time left to post a bid. No reserve price will be established for items.
People with winning bids are responsible for picking up the items at the county storage facility or for arranging shipping. Visitors also can sign up to receive email notifications of new listings or commodities.
The online auction will generate additional revenue for the county and reduce the amount of staff time required to dispose of surplus materials.
Access to the website auction is expected to be extended to other registered governmental agencies in Sarasota, Venice and North Port, as well as registered nonprofit organizations operating in Sarasota County. Interested nonprofits need to quality to participate. Materials acquired through the auction site by registered agencies cannot be resold.
To register, contact the Sarasota County Call Center at 941-861-5000 and ask for Capital Assets.
